A. Balikpinoy Balikbayan Filipino Heritage Program (BFHP)
The
Balikbayan Filipino Heritage Program (BFHP) is a month-long summer camp
for children of Filipinos living abroad. The main aim of the program is
to help inculcate a healthy spirit of Filipino Nationalism and Love for
the Philippines on young Filipinos who spent most of their growing up
years living abroad. This will be done through the 3H methodology of
the program:
a.) History
– the program will provide a journey to the rich historical past of the
Philippines and the Filipino People. This will be done through talks by
noted Filipino historians such as current National Historical Institute
(NHI) Chairman and Philippine Daily Inquirer Columnist, Prof. Ambeth
Ocampo and historical tours conducted by the likes of Philippine
National Museum Senior Consultant, John Silva.
b.) Heritage
– the program will showcase the beauty of Filipino culture through
field trips and food trips. Major destinations will include the world
famous Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao, Our Lady of Piat Cathedral and
Callao Caves in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan Valley and a delectable food
trip in Pampanga.
c.) Heart
– this is the most important part of the program as this will introduce
the participants to the current realities of Philippine society.
Participants will undergo an immersion to an urban poor community in
Metro Manila, participate in a Gawad Kalinga house build in Nueva Ecija
and will get to meet inspiring Filipino leaders such as Gov. Eddie
"Among Ed" Panlilio of Pampanga. Aside from this, participants will
also undergo a Philippine Eco-Tour by visiting beaches and diving sites
in Batangas. Finally, the participants will also be given an
introductory course on Social Entrepreneurship by the Ateneo de Manila
University-School of Government and will be asked to develop a Social
Enterprise plan that they can implement once they go back to their
place of origin. The plan will be aimed at helping solve social
problems in the Philippines.
The
